Structured Support for Serious Talent
Many talented students are praised for their potential. Far fewer are given a framework to develop it consistently.
XWA Aspire Academy is designed for students who are ready to go beyond being “good at something” and start building the habits, perspective, and evidence of progress that serious future pathways demand.
That includes tailored coaching and enrichment, guidance from a dedicated mentor, support for mental resilience and personal growth, and a developing portfolio that helps students present their strengths with clarity as they look ahead to university and career opportunities.
Character and Knowledge
Talent opens doors, but it is character, discipline, and self-management that help students keep moving forward once expectations rise.
Through workshops, lectures, and practical sessions, Aspire Academy helps students strengthen the personal qualities and practical understanding needed to perform well, recover well, and grow with maturity in demanding environments.
Character
XWA Aspire Academy develops these attributes deliberately through the programme.
Respect | Self-awareness | Humility | Resilience | Discipline | Integrity | Self-management | Confidence | Perseverance | Commitment | Courage | Accountability
Knowledge

Guiding High-Performing Students to Excel:
Meet Danny Tauroa
At the centre of XWA Aspire Academy is Danny Tauroa, whose individual mentorship helps students define meaningful goals, build effective habits, and identify opportunities that propel them forward. A former elite New Zealand rugby player and Head Coach of Singapore’s Men’s (2007–2010) and Women’s (2011–2014) National Rugby Teams, Danny brings over 20 years of experience in high-performance athletics, international school sports leadership, and coaching.
With 16 years as an international educator and leader, he takes a holistic approach, supporting students across the physical, mental, and social demands of their environment. His guidance is personal, practical, and future-focused, developing mindset, resilience, and transferable skills so students leave school with the discipline and composure to compete at any level. Danny also oversees the Aspire Academy, nurturing high-performing students across sport, arts, and academics.
What Your Child Gains Over Time
Research shows that students in bilingual programmes often make strong gains in both language development and overall learning. In this programme, students not only learn two languages, but also learn through both languages—using them to think, communicate, and solve problems across subjects. This strong bilingual foundation prepares students well for the IB Middle Years Programme.
By this stage, your child will have spent years reading, writing, discussing, and interpreting increasingly complex ideas across subjects in two languages, developing both academic proficiency and confidence.

Who Is Eligible and How To Apply

Eligibility
XWA Aspire Academy is selective by design. The programme works because every student in it is genuinely committed. Your child is likely a strong candidate if they meet the following criteria:
- Recognised within XWA as a high performer in their chosen discipline (sports, arts, or academics).
- Performing at a high level within the school environment.
- Recognised with achievements and awards in the discipline.
- Has received strong supporting evidence from faculty about attitude, character, and behaviour.
- Is part of a recognised club, society, or team outside of school.
- Committed to excelling in their discipline, with it as their primary focus.
Application Process
Students can be identified by the school, invited directly, or apply themselves. Scholarship recipients are likely to be included. The process gives your child the chance to present who they are and what they are working towards:
- A completed application form.
- A face-to-face interview.
- A personal presentation showcasing achievements and goals.
Successful applicants receive a letter confirming their place. Unsuccessful applicants are spoken to in person and given specific feedback on what would strengthen a future application.
