What Our Parents Say

Discover why families from Japan choose XCL World Academy.

Many Japanese parents are worried about whether their child can fit into the international class. How does the school support this, and how did your children adapt?

There are two homeroom teachers in each class, and they pay very close attention to each child. Communication between school and home is very smooth, and I can contact the teachers directly through the app, so I can quickly share any concerns or how my child is doing at home. Thanks to this detailed support, my children naturally adapted to the school.

How was the support from the EAL teachers and the school?

I once consulted the teacher about which skills I wanted my child to improve after seeing their WIDA results. The EAL teacher didn’t just give textbook advice, but provided concrete and practical suggestions based on actually observing my child in class. This made me trust them and approach things positively.

Were there any differences or surprises compared to what you imagined before attending the school?

Even from the admissions process before enrollment, I was pleasantly surprised by how quick and polite the responses were. That impression hasn’t changed since joining—the school always responds quickly to any issues, so I feel comfortable consulting them. I feel that my voice is truly heard by the school. Regarding grades, instead of relative evaluation, various teachers observe the children from multiple perspectives and give absolute evaluations tailored to each child’s personality and growth, which makes me happy.

What do you and your family think was good about attending the school?

The school values children’s independence and individuality. This is reflected in daily school life more than I imagined, and I feel relieved as a parent seeing my child spend their days freely and as themselves. I’m glad that the school’s comprehensive educational philosophy is having such a positive impact on my child.

What kind of Japanese language support is available?

The biggest thing is the presence of Japanese language support as emotional support. Even when my child wasn’t fully used to English, having time and space where they could safely express their feelings in Japanese gave them great peace of mind. Thanks to this environment, my child could approach studying English positively and gained the strength to keep challenging themselves.

Do you have any advice/messages for parents considering XWA?

XWA is a medium-sized school with warmth and a sense of security. The teachers pay close attention not only to their own grade but to all the children, always looking out for them. Connections among the children naturally spread, and there’s a warm environment where even older students reach out to younger ones. The closeness and attentive care for each individual is a major attraction of XWA.

Many Japanese parents are worried about whether their child can fit into the international class. How does the school support this, and how did your children adapt?

My younger child (KG2) couldn’t speak English at all, but comes home every day saying school was fun, so I can tell they’re enjoying playing with teachers and friends regardless of language. My older child also entered the English-Chinese bilingual program with zero English, but still came home saying school was fun even without understanding either language. Having Japanese class twice a week helped maintain emotional balance, and the younger the child, the more they can make friends through play, so the school was very warm and welcoming even to children who couldn’t speak English.

How was the support from the EAL teachers and the school?

My eldest entered Grade 1 with zero English and was able to graduate from EAL in one year. The EAL classes are finely divided, and the teachers pay close attention to each student, so even starting with zero English or Chinese, I feel my child was able to grow in just one year.

Were there any differences or surprises compared to what you imagined before attending the school?

There are more school holidays at international schools than I expected. During long breaks, there are summer camps and such, so the environment doesn’t change, and children can experience camp while attending the same place, which I think is a good system. Also, I felt that Japanese elementary schools have a tendency for everyone to become the same, but at XWA, I was able to experience and learn that it’s natural for everyone to be different and to accept diversity.

What do you and your family think was good about attending the school?

The school has an atmosphere that encourages students to take on challenges. Not only teachers and parents, but also the children themselves praise those who want to try new things. That warmth is a big reason I’m glad we chose XWA.

What kind of Japanese language support is available?

Even with zero English, my child could follow up on class content in Japanese, so they could keep up with English lessons without problems. They also help with hiragana and kanji, so it’s much more reassuring than studying alone at home. I’m not good at English myself, but when I want to convey subtle nuances to the teachers, I’m very grateful to have Japanese teachers who can help.

Do you have any advice/comments for parents considering XWA?

XWA is beautiful and has state-of-the-art facilities. I think it’s a comfortable space for children. The teachers and staff are all cheerful, and the daily lively atmosphere is one reason it feels so comfortable, so I hope everyone can experience it for themselves.
